Settings update : Sept 1 2010
Improved settings file for captures from older slides and PRINTS-
Customers that have slides may notice that for some slides the resulting captured image is too light and the detail is lost. This issue is most noticeable in the following cases:
- Older slides taken more than 10 years ago. Over time slides will age and the white areas will become lighter and the dark areas will become lighter- this creates problems for calculating the proper exposure
- Slides that have a very light subject and a very dark background are the most problematic. These are generally images that have been taken with a Flash.
- Photos of White subjects such as Wedding Cakes, Wedding dresses etc..
Older prints will have a similar effect and the prints will begin to fade and loose detail. This makes it more difficult to get a good captured image.
To solve this issue we have added a feature to the scanning window that will allow you to manually adjust the image darker or lighter and this should improve the exposure and quality of the resulting scan.
In addition we have optimized our Slide Settings for olders slides and older prints. These setting files decrease the contrast of the image sensor so that you maintain more detail and less contrast on your image.
See the example below from a slide that was taken more than 30 years ago. Our new settings reduce the overall contrast of the image so that more details in your original image are maintained.
